In this free community event, children and families can enjoy the first week of the summer holidays with our friendly team.

The activities are suitable for all children aged 3 to 11 years old, and include sports, games, free play, balance bikes available to use, climbing wall and crafts.

There are also free hot lunches for children who receive free school meals.

The event is run and organised by the Community Sport and Wellbeing Team at Chelmsford City Council, alongside partnered organisations.

All sessions are suitable for everyone, including those with accessible needs.

You are very welome to dress up to fit the theme of the day, but it is optional.

Food workshops

Felicitous Foodology are providing food demonstration and tasting workshops (morning sessions) and fruit and vegetable tasting (afternoon sessions) throughout the week with a different food to sample each day.

These are available for everyone to book. Places are limited so make sure you book a separate ticket online to avoid missing out. (You can book this when you book your general admission ticket.)

All the workshops will fit the theme of the day.

  • Monday: Superhero stir fry or veggie stir-fry non-meat alternative

  • Tuesday: Moon pebbles with a scrummy sauce (gnocchi with chicken sauce)

  • Wednesday: Teddy bears tacos (chilli tacos)

  • Thursday: Food from the deep blue sea (tuna and cheese pasta bake)

  • Friday: Disco party Margheritas (mini healthy pizzas)

Fruit and veg tasting

You can pick your own selection of fresh fruits and fill a pot. You can then choose to eat in the park or take home to share.

You could take a ride on the smoothie bike and create your favourite smoothie to drink, using the fruits you have chosen in your pot.

Catering

JP's Kitchen are providing a free hot lunch for children eligible for benefit-based free schools meals, with a varied menu throughout the week. Please do not book a lunch ticket if your child is not eligible for benefit-based free school meals. 

We will announce the menu shortly.

Bring your own

Feel free to bring a picnic along for your lunch. Coffee Mama will be with us all week with hot and cold drinks and snacks available to purchase.

There will be a limited number of tables, chairs and deckchairs that you can use, or you can bring a blanket with you.

The morning session runs from 10am to 12pm. Lunch is from 12pm to 1pm and the afternoon sessions runs from 1pm to 3pm.

All sessions are suitable for everyone, including those with additional needs.

General admission tickets are available on a first come first served basis and will depend on the event capacity. You can book your ticket now.

The event is taking place in Melbourne Park.

The road entrance to the park is on Salerno Way, but you can access it on foot from Cheviot Drive, Melbourne Avenue and via the woods. 

By car

There is free parking available in the car park accessible via the service road off Salerno Way.

By bus

Use routes 32, C2 or C3. Alight at Langton Avenue or at Melbourne shops.
